A Passion for William Morris

Three French Hens

This collection of paintings was inspired by the designs of William Morris and is on the theme of “Five Days of Christmas” . The work is available as framed or unframed prints from “A partridge in a pear tree” to “Five gold rings”. Prior to making this series I completed an altar front for St Nicholas, Kittisford as well as a series of panels for the church on woodland themes.

This is a green woodland scene showing a beech tree. In the tree the branches are coverred in a climbing white flowers and ivy which is painted in gold and silver leaf. There are pears hanging from the tree whoich are painted in gold leaf as this is sowing a partridge in a pear tree. There is a single bird in the tree painted in orange, brown and white and lots of orange lillies and white flowers growing beneath the branches.
This is a woodland scene painted in a graphic style which shows horse chestnut leaves with some climbing ivy painted in gold as well as some purple flowers, called morning glory. There are four birds painted in yellow, orange, white and black and these are four calling birds from the song a Partridge in a Pear Tree. At the bottom of the image there are white and red flowers.
