The Hills Around

Looking across to the Blackdown Hills and Wellington Monument from Langford Budville

Living on the Somerset-Devon border I am surrounded by hills in all directions. The rugged moorland scenery of Exmoor lies to the west, while to the east lies the wooded hills and valleys of the Blackdown Hills. What interests me most is the boundary between the wild moorland, often at my feet, and the hedgeows and farmland beyond. I am currently working on a series of oil paintings inspired by the uplands which surround me. As I explore and paint them during the winter I am rewarded with dramatic skyscapes with fleeting light illuminating the landscape.
