Looking West from Sampford Moor

Sampford Moor, on the Blackdown Hills, is close to where Annie lives. It is one of her favourite areas to walk the dogs and she is frequently inspired by the extensive views of Somerset and Devon she enjoys up there. This ridge runs on the edge of the Blackdowns and in autumn is covered in flowering gorse and heather. Annie enjoys the boundary between the wild heathland vegetation on the moor and the farmed land beneath. The painting achieves extraordinary depth and conveys the extensive views from the ridge. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the trees, the undergrowth and the foliage with deft strokes and mark making.

This 50 x 50 cm deep canvas is unframed. It is currently available for £395 from The Talent Gallery, Fore Street, Wellington https://www.talentartgallery.co.uk/

When Exmoor Glows

Exmoor is one of Annie’s favourite landscapes. She is inspired by the contrast between the wild moor in the foreground and the managed, farmed landscape in the distance. She is interested in the boundaries which occur between the two and the interplay of light on the landscape. She frequently walks the landscape with her two labradors, makes quick sketches, takes notes and a few photos. She works mostly in her studio where she can work on more than one canvas at a time, experimenting with colour, tone and mark making, until she is statisfied that she has achieved the atmosphere she experienced on her walk.

Annie takes her inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. Increasingly Annie is taking risks with her paintings and developing a more dynamic style akin to Jill Eisele and David Tress. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape with deft strokes and mark making.

It is 20 x 21 cm x 3.5 cm canvas and available unframed for £125 including UK mainland p and p. It is now available directly from the artist from her Studio Gallery. Visits by appointment. This painting is now SOLD
