Somewhere in the wood a blackbird is singing

Close by Annie’s studio, there is a small copse of trees. She took her inspiration for this work from walking through the copse when a blackbird was singing its heart out. In the density of summer foliage it was impossible to see the bird, just hear it somewhere in the wood. The tranquility and coolness of the wood was her inspiration for this 40 x 40 cm oil painting on canvas. Increasingly Annie is taking risks with her paintings and developing a more dynamic style akin to David Tress. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the trees, the undergrowth and the foliage with deft strokes and mark making. This semi-abstract painting leaves the viewer looking deep into the wood.

This canvas is framed in unpainted and unvarnished wood. Available for £275 from The Talent Gallery, Fore Street, Wellington https://www.talentartgallery.co.uk/
