The end of a winter’s day at Sennen cove

Inspired by a winter walk along the coastal path from Cape Cornwall towards Sennen Cove. The light in Cornwall is spectacular and ever changing. It can be raining one minute and sunny the next. In this painting Annie captures the effect of the light on the water and the atmosphere of this very special stretch of coastline. Annie takes her inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. Increasingly Annie is taking risks with her paintings and developing a more dynamic style akin to David Tress. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape and the shadows on the water with deft strokes and mark making.

This painting was made early in 2023, oil on card. This painting is framed in a white painted St Ives frame and is available from ACE gallery in Somerton. https://www.acearts.co.uk/
