Stubble on a January walk from Sennen Cove

A visit to Cape Cornwall in winter is always an inspiration for a series of paintings from the coastal footpath. The light changes quickly and illuminates different parts of the sea and coastline. It’s a dynamic landscape to paint. It can be raining one minute and sunny the next. In this painting Annie captures the effect of the stubble fields and the distant headland above Sennen Cove. Annie takes her inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. She enjoys exploring the boundary between land and sea and the different textures of the land as she walks the coast path. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape and the shadows on the water with deft strokes and mark making.

This painting was made in 2023, oil on card. This painting is framed in a white painted St Ives frame and is available from ACE gallery in Somerton. https://www.acearts.co.uk/(Edit)
